Superintendent Resignation and Leadership Plan for 2023-2024 School Year

On May 1, 2023, the Zion Elementary School District 6 Board of Education accepted the resignation of Superintendent Dr. Keely Roberts. Dr. Roberts served as superintendent at Zion District 6 since July 1, 2015, and we are grateful for her leadership and commitment to our students and schools. She has been on medical leave following the tragic incident during the July 4 Highland Park parade. We support Dr. Roberts and her family as they continue to heal from this tragedy.

We are grateful that Dr. Lynette Zimmer, who served as an interim superintendent for our District from July to October of last year, has agreed to return in this capacity for the 2023-2024 school year.   We are pleased that Dr. Jim McKay, who is currently providing interim leadership, has agreed to remain and join Dr. Zimmer as a co-interim superintendent for the 2023-2024 school year.

This fall, District 6 will begin the search for a strong leader to serve as our future superintendent for the 2024-2025 school year.   We are committed to pursuing excellence without exception for all Zion District 6 students, staff and families every day.

We will share updates and information on the search process in the coming months.

District 6 Board of Education Continues Commitment To Tax Abatement

District 6 is one of 37 school districts throughout Illinois that applied for, and has been awarded a property tax grant and will receive a portion of $53 million in property tax relief funds. The grant program is part of the state's Evidence-Based Funding (EBF) program. District 6 has been awarded slightly over $1.2 million specifically for property tax abatement.  Additionally, at this month's Regular Board of Education Meeting, the Board of Education expressed its ongoing commitment to seeking tax-payer relief opportunities such as the property tax grants that the district has successfully applied for, and received, for the past few years.  The Board also provided a statement regarding HB2408, pending legislation related to nuclear waste storage, and a potential intergovernmental agreement.  The Zion Elementary District 6 Board statement regarding HB2408 can be found below.
