Special guest, Peter Dankelson came to share his WONDER with the Beulah school community. Students and staff were excited to have Peter share his inspirational journey and the creation of his Choose Kind movement, which makes him a true WONDER. The Choose Kind Initiative started in 2012 when the book Wonder was published by R.J. Palacio. The book inspired Peter's Choose Kind movement. The novel, now a national bestseller and recent movie, tells the incredibly inspiring and heartwarming story of a boy who was born with a genetic abnormality and facial differences who enters 5th grade attending a mainstream elementary school for the first time.

While the story of Wonder is about a student with a craniofacial condition, the Choose Kind message applies to everyone. The Children’s Craniofacial Association (CCA) supports Choose Kind by sharing its most valuable resource, “Real-Life Wonder Kids” who all have facial differences and/or craniofacial syndromes who provide unique classroom experiences that deepen the educational and social impact of craniofacial abnormalities.

This proactive kindness education and is even stronger and more powerful than bullying prevention alone. It helps students form values that will stay with them their entire lives. The Choose Kind message is truly universal because at some point in all of our lives we feel unsure, self-conscious, and out of place.

This school year Beulah Park students focused on activities that highlighted their uniqueness while promoting inclusion, acceptance, and kindness. Peter's presentation was a positive, inspirational way to end the school year and to reinforce the importance of choosing kind.

Thank you, Peter and Mrs. Dankelson, for spreading joy and kindness!
