For the 2022-2023 school year Zion District 6 has implemented an instructional support class within all grade levels (Kindergarten - Grade 8) to provide intensive academic focused instruction for students in need of reading skills and strategies. This programmatic class is termed "Learning Lab". A defined curriculum has been procured for this class. Certified staff is provided intensive training to deliver instruction with the use of the curricular materials. Learning Lab is provided in addition to students' core curriculum, therefore students receive additional instruction to strengthen his/her reading skills. Learning Lab is a component of our Multi-Tiered Support System (MTSS). Specified time within the school day is dedicated to MTSS instruction. Within grades 6-8, in lieu of participation in elective programming, students in need of MTSS will attend Learning Lab.
Criteria for participation within our Learning Lab class:
Previous year's Spring benchmark screening assessment Percentile Rank (PR) scores are evaluated to identify student participants. Current year Fall and Winter PR scores are also reviewed.
The Percentile Rank (PR) ranges from 1-99 and compares student performance to other students in the same grade nationwide.
